Minecraft: Red Moon
Minecraft never scared me. Not the creepers, not the Endermen, not the Herobrine myths. See, games cant really scare me.
I just don't see how a game like minecraft can be scary, even if certain myths existed. Until I saw the Red Moon. Obviously you don't think a Red Moon can be very freaky. Its not. What the Red Moon does, is very freaky.
It started two weeks ago from now. I hadn't played Minecraft in over a year, I thought it was a great game, but it just slipped away from me somehow. One day I was watching a few minecraft videos, god knows why, so I suddenly got the urge to play it again. Realizing I was using a new e-mail account, and I had no idea what my password for the actual game was, I couldn't download it. I checked the price, and it was almost ten bucks more than it was a year ago.
Wow. Not wanting to spend the twenty something bucks on something I would probably get bored of, I looked for a free download version of it. After about half an hour later, I found this site that had the sole purpose of a free Minecraft download for version 1.3. I checked to see how many downloads, it said: 1. Worrying it might be a virus, I stupidly downloaded it anyway. Once it was on my PC, i clicked install. It worked.
I opened up Minecraft, and it said:
NEW UPDATE AVAILABLE:
Yes No
Wondering why it was asking me to update since i was using the current version, I hit yes anyway. This also confused me since i didn't even enter any information such as a username yet. I didn't think much of it, and let it install. It took a while, and i could see every little file it was changing. Right before it finished, i saw something odd. It said:
Fix/REDMOON/******* (I couldn't see the rest of the letters in time before it disappeared.)
Redmoon? What was that? I shrugged it off and clicked create new world. I began in a snow biome, not being a fan of snow biomes, i headed out for the desert biome nearby. I noticed the game had a foodbar now, and it drained quickly, so I set the difficulty to peaceful, not wanting to die from hunger or something. I was looking for new changes in the game from when I last played it, and I noted there was a lot of new things. I chopped wood, made a pickaxe, got cobble, made a stone pickaxe, sword, food, you know the drill. I walked into a Plains biome when the time was at about Midnight. That's when I looked up. The moon.
It was a shade of red and pink, no way this could be in the game now, the moon was obviously white, as i saw in the videos I watched earlier. Oh well, maybe whoever put this up online made file changes or it got mixed up in the download or something. I kept walking, and it started to rain. Not normal rain, Red rain.
I took snapshots of the moon and rain, just because it seemed unusual. I noticed some particles were still blueish, so I debunked it as some texture error or something. I turned the difficulty to normal, getting bored of peaceful. I saw a creeper, and a spider.
I readied my sword, but noticed something. They weren't moving, at all. I also noticed the creepers eyes were red. Noting this also unusual, I attacked the creeper, and it blew up. But instead of the normal ssssss..... noise, I heard whispers.
Soft, whispers for about 3 seconds. I've seen enough weird things for one night, so I made a little wooden shack, gathered 3 wool, made a bed, and prepared for morning. When I awoke, I wasn't in the dirt shack anymore. I was in a cobble basement, and all my tools were gone. The screen was slightly disoriented, like how you get when your entering a nether portal, except red.
I took snapshots but for some reason it only showed the screen, not the disorientation. I walked through the basement-ish place, and i looked at the ceiling. Completely made of glass. A Red Moon shining through. Whispers coming from further down the hall.
I tried to turn down the game volume, but the whispers were still there. A chill went through my body, and I told myself I wouldn't go down that hall, and I would stop playing this game. I didn't. I progressed down the hall, the ceiling was now cobblestone, two blocks high. The long corridor was dimly lit by redstone torches. I could barley see. I then turned the difficulty to Peaceful, just in case. I walked for about 3 minutes, then heard growling zombie sounds, combined with human whispers, the whispers were louder, but I still couldn't hear what they were saying. I heard Zombie growls again, and checked my settings. Sound: 0%, Difficulty: Peaceful.
This, was starting to creep me the hell out. I could now see things faintly in the distance, Red eyes. Three pairs of them, coming towards me. I figured it was the zombies, and I stepped back to defend myself. One hit me, and what happened, was instead of the usual *oomph* sound your character makes, it made a short male scream. It lasted for about a second every time i was hit. I ran around the zombies to the end of the hall. It was a dead end. There was a sign on the wall there, it read:
Listen to the Whispers...
Realizing there was no way this could be part of the game, it was probably edited or changed in some way and put up on that site, I tried to save and quit. When I clicked it, I heard one thing:
NO.
I tried again.
NO.
One more time:
NO.
The no sounded like it was coming from an actual male voice. I tried to X out of the game, but nothing happened. Ctl. Alt. Delete. Nothing. Whatever I downloaded had to be some kind of virus. Defeated, I headed back to the game. I was still in the hall, and I decided to just let the zombies kill me just in case there was some kind of dream mod to this download. Their red eyes sent chills down my spine, they glowed more than the Enderman's purple eyes. They kept hitting me, the wails kept coming from my character, then when I died, the whole screen went red. Yellow text appeared:
YOU DIED!
SCORE: 0
I hit respawn. The Minecraft crashing screen appeared, i figured it didn't work anymore. So i tried starting it up one more time.
It updated again.
Fix/REDMOON/*******
I noticed my hands were shaking. I clicked load world, and I noticed my world wasn't named "New World" anymore, it was named "Red Moon". I entered the world again. Once again, I didn't have my materials, but it was still nighttime, raining blood. I stepped outside, and it stopped, giving me a nice view of the red moon. It had an eerie glow to it, not like the normal moon texture, it actually had a glow to it.
Suddenly I looked around, Bloody mobs, red eyes, everywhere. Whispers in my ears, there were red-eyed creepers, bloody textures coming from their necks, Zombies, glowing red eyes, bloody mouths, even pigs. Blood soaked. One had a texture where i could see some of his bones. Wondering how the hell textures could change like that, I tried to listen to the whispers as the monsters closed in on my character, getting ready to kill him. I could make out a few words from the whispers-
"Sleep, persistent one. Your time is done. This is our world. Yours is just as bad as ours. Now go. Die. Alone."
They killed my character, and I heard a whisper come from his mouth as the You Died screen appeared. I heard-
"Luna..." He was staring at the red moon. The screen flashed red.
The game crashed again. I deleted it. The whispers, were talking to ME. The message I got from this, is that us humans are almost possessed by our beliefs that we will eventually corrupt ourselves. I have some video evidence that what happened to me in this cracked Minecraft is real. Tell me if you want me to put it up here. I looked up the site again, it said it was no longer supporting downloads of any kind, and then the page 404'd after a few seconds. I have the real Minecraft now, that has never occurred to me again. We are all going to die. I hope it wont be under the pressure of a possessed object, like a red luna....
I got more than scared. I got a message.
