I Don't Think This Is Minecraft Anymore

Sometimes, I can still hear faint screams and smell fresh blood in the air...

It was just a normal day, just me sitting at my computer, more bored than I ever would be. I would always go on YouTube and watch Minecraft videos; so today, I decided to get it myself. My parents would always complain about me being on the computer all the time, so I knew that any attempts to get Minecraft through them would be in vain. Not knowing of any friends who played it, I had only one plausible method of obtaining the gameo the Internet. So I opened up Chrome and searched for it. There were a ton of links to pretty legit websites on the first couple of pages, but they always led to me having to do some sort of stupid survey. I searched everywhere for a way around, but I had no luck. Being the absurdly hard-headed person I am (thanks a lot, Dad), I kept searching farther and farther, until I decided to just skip to the last page.

Bad Idea #1.

The search result only said, "DOWNLOAD MINECRAFT HERE." No text under it, no URL, just the link to the site. In desperation, I clicked on the link.

Bad Idea #2.

Once the page was fully loaded, all I saw were the words, "CLICK TO DOWNLOAD." I felt a little wary about proceeding, but I didn't care that much, thinking nothing could possibly go wrong.

Bad Idea #3.

Once that page loaded, I was greeted by the phrase, "EST NO RED." Assuming it was in Latin, I hopped on to Google Translate, finding it meant, "There is no reserve." I checked for alternate wordings, discovering that "return" could be swapped with "reserve". Slightly shaken, I scrolled down the page. All I saw was black. Just black, nothing else. The page went on forever, till I finally hit the bottom. In big, bold, red letters, read the words "DOMINE ludi INSTITUO," which roughly translated to "Let the games begin." At this point, I was so freaked out, I was practically shaking. I was completely unable to go back to the previous pages. I tried closing out and reopening Chrome, but the page would still appear, in exactly the same fashion, just like where I left it. Even opening Internet Explorer didn't make the page go away. I eventually had to resort to restarting the computer.

When I restarted the computer, all of the browsers were working normally. But there was a new icon on the desktop: it was Minecraft! I felt elated, yet very suspicious about the new download. The first problem was in the icon itself. The usual dirt block used as the icon was turned upside-down. I didn't think much of it, but I decided to open it anyway. I didn't go through all of that trouble for nothing.

Little did I know, I was about to get into even more trouble.

When I started the game, it looked pretty normal to me. I decided to just create some random world to get the hang of things. When the world finished loading, I was shown a black screen. Then, in bold white letters, the game said, "That was the easy part of the challenge. Let's see if you can do something more difficult, if you can stay alive long enough." I was a little put off by the text, but I went on and played.

In the very beginning, there was a torrential downpour; it was in nighttime to boot. In front of me was a sign that read, "GOOD LUCK, YOU'LL NEED IT." Beside the sign there was a chest. The chest was full of stacks of raw beef and rotten flesh, but in the middle, there was a stack of diamond blocks and a note. The note read; "You must trudge though Hell to find solace in Heaven." I had absolutely no clue what the note was about, but I had a feeling this was not going to be pretty. The rain still poured, but I noticed something was different; the grass had little red dots randomly splattered all over them. I knew it couldn't be Redstone, but what could it be?

The rain never stopped, not even a REAL LIFE half hour later. I can say the same thing about nighttime. It was dinnertime, so I did get a bit of a break from this crazy game. When I resumed, the game really started freaking me out. The sky turned a pure white, and the rain turned red. My character was stuck in a position looking upward. When I moved forward, I fell down an EXTREMELY deep pit, until I landed in some sort of dungeon.

Inside, there were multiple large rooms. In each room, there was some sort of torture device. There were also people in the rooms. They looked a little more human-like than the original Minecraft characters. I walked up to one of the rooms to get a better glimpse of one of the "prisoners." He was completely skinned from head to toe. He was bound to the back wall by chains, and on that wall in between the chains was a saw. I heard him growl, "You're next," before the chains started retracting and the saw blade started to spin. As the prisoner was cut in half, his body parts were collected on top of a pressure plate. Once the pressure plate was activated, a wall of stone dropped in front of me, preventing me from viewing the gruesome scene anymore.

When I turned around, a set of pistons transported me to a door at the end of the hallway. Upon opening the door, I was greeted by a huge lava pit. Around the edges stood even more prisoners, packed to the brim. As I turned to face one beside me, he appeared to be MELTING. All kinds of blood splattered the screen, until the whole screen was slathered in red and everything went silent. As the game and the sound faded back in, I found that the other prisoners and I were in the lava pit. I couldn't move, I couldn't even avert my eyes. I was staring at a golden cross, crucifying one of the prisoners. In my field of vision I could see the other prisoners struggling to reach him, but I wasn't sure if they were trying to save him, or finish him off. They all died whenever they got close. I attempted to move forward, but as I did, Minecraft, and my computer, crashed on the spot. But the prisoners' screams were still loud and clear.
