Doom 4: The Rejected Sequel

Some of you might find it hard to believe, but i've been a Doom fan ever since the first game came out in 1993. When did i first play it? At my grandma's house, which (at the time) was about 5 miles away from my house. This was during a time where my parents were extremely overprotective, and they didn't let me play violent video games. So the first Doom game was something new to me, i got sick of playing Mario and Sonic (The only games i was allowed to play) so i decided to download Doom onto the family computer. My parents were pissed with me, but i didn't really give two shits.

When the second game came out, my family was tight on Money and my grades on my report card were terrible. As you can probably tell, i wasn't the smartest kid. My parents kept convincing me to pay attention in class, but i just kept thinking about Video Games. When i went to sleep, i would dream about the Doom-slayer coming to my house. He was my hero!

When i got my Nintendo 64, Doom 64 was the first game i ever brought for the console. It wasn't as good as the first game, but i didn't mind it too much. The graphics were much better, but the levels were really confusing. I remember being stuck on the very first level. My brother, who was an expert at most of the Doom games, helped me get through the first level.

Then Doom 3 came out, and it instantly became my favourite game out of the franchise. The story was awesome! and the jump scares were so frightening, yet so cool at the same time! I played it every single day, and i eventually finished the entire game.

So yeah, i was a huge fan of the Doom franchise, and i always will be. Even after this one very fateful day.

My home was ransacked over the winter, and many of my kitchen appliances were stolen. There was a piece of paper near the bottom of the dinner table, and i picked it up.

A blank disk was attached to the piece of paper, and there were words written onto the disc:

"Doom 4: The Rejected Sequel"

"Cool" I thought to myself. I had just discovered a deleted sequel to Doom 3, but where was i gonna play it? I didn't have any gaming systems, nor did i have a Computer. I then noticed a small Laptop on the floor, there was a tiny crack near the bottom of the screen. But i didn't really care too much! I just wanted to play my game! I put the Disc into the Laptop's Disc drive, grabbed an ice cold pepsi from the fridge, and began to play.

The game started off with a familiar menu, it looked a lot like the Menu from Doom 1. The only difference being that the Background was a lot darker, and the Doom-slayer looked a lot weaker. The options were "Play" "More from Bethesda" and "Bethesda.net"

I clicked the play option, and it immediately took me to a level. It was the "Hangar" level, from the "Knee Deep in the Dead" chapter. So far, there was nothing weird in the game. I powered through the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth levels. I was having a blast! I really wish i could play the rest of the game, but there was something that scared me so much! i just had to stop playing.

After the fifth level, an image flashed across, but i didn't really get a good look at the image. I didn't get why they called it the "Rejected Sequel" when it was exactly the same as the first game, the only difference being that the main menu had a much darker background. That, and it didn't let you choose your level nor difficulty.

I played the next few levels, and the game was still completely normal. I didn't see anything wrong with the game. Nostalgia overtook my mind as i played the eighth level "Phobos Anomaly" i remember completing the level when i was just 9 years old. After the level finished, the screen completely cut to black.

Here is when things got weird, really weird.

The word "Why" appeared in the centre of the screen. There was no audio, at all. The only thing i could hear were some birds chirping outside and my neighbours talking. I pressed the arrow keys, but they didn't work. This screen lasted for about 2 minutes, before it faded into the next level.

It was supposed to be the "Military Base" level, but it wasn't. There was darkness, and i could very clearly see steam slowly rising from what seemed to be a hole. Again, there was absolutely no audio. There was a portal in the centre of the screen, i slowly walked over to the portal and proceeded to run through it. On the other side of the portal, there was a hallway. There was the audio this time, it was the theme from the level "Deimos Anomaly" which was the first level in the chapter "The Shores of Hell" The music was much, much slower. I spent about an hour walking through the hall.

The game froze again, and i was walking through an abandoned town. Most of the buildings looked very decrepit, and most of the signs looked very familiar. A demon appeared next to me, and i shot him in the head. But the demon didn't die, i tried shooting it some more but the demon would just slide away. Ominous music began to play in the background.

I could hear some people talking in a building, so i went inside of the building. There were people inside of the building, all having a conversation. The audio kept cutting out, so i had no idea what they were saying. One of the men turned towards me and said:

"Gentlemen, i think we have a guest. Tell us ya name, please"

The Doom-slayer didn't say anything, i used the mouse to look around the room. That same man spoke again:

"Well, aren't you gonna tell us ya name?"

The screen froze for about 5 seconds, before it went back to normal again. Most of the men were getting ready to attack me.

"GET HIM BOYS!"

Two men started to run towards me. A cutscene began to play. The two men were still running towards the Doom-slayer, while the other people were laughing hysterically. One of the men punched him in the face, this was a foolish move because the doom-slayer was already pissed off. He grabbed the man by the neck, and stabbed him in the neck.

I was terrified, but can you really blame me? it came out of nowhere! Gameplay returned. I was now running from the same crowd of people i saw in the building, most of them were throwing pitchforks at me. Causing me to lose 12% of my health. The doom-slayer was screaming at the top of his lungs as more and more pitchforks were being thrown at him. When i died, the screen cut to black again. And it faded into another cutscene.

It showed the Doom-slayer still running for his life, with the same crowd of people running behind him. He had a paranoid look on his face as he was running. This scene went on for a couple of minutes. The Doom-Slayer fell to the ground, due to exhaustion and dehydration. A women (who was in the building) Found his dying body and yelled:

"I'VE FOUND HIM! I'VE FOUND HIM!"

The crowd of people ran towards the Doom-slayer as he screamed at the top of his lungs. Before the crowd could get any closer to him, the screen cut to black.

I sat there, with a dazed look on my face. I didn't know how to react! Should i shut the computer off? or should i just play the final cutscene?

After a few minutes of nothing but a black screen, the final cutscene played. There were people dancing in a circle, and i could hear some evil laughter coming from all of them. The screen cut to the demon slayer, he was strapped to a chair in front of a table. Many of his organs were on a plate, and he was forced to eat them. He started to sob as he chewed on his intestines. The laughter of the crowd got louder and louder as The Doom-Slayer started to scream and cry. Some cheery music started to play in the background as the Doom-Slayer slit his own throat, causing him to pass out on the floor.

The crowd of people started to snicker and laugh as the screen slowly zoomed out. The screen faded to black, and it took me back to the main menu.

After that brutal cutscene, i shut off the computer and ran upstairs. I was now petrified! I didn't want to play that "game" anymore. I couldn't sleep that night, i had nightmares about that sequel! In fact, i can remember them all very vividly. But i don't want to waste your time, and it's way past my bedtime. I should really get some sleep.

There's one more thing i need to tell you: If you see a copy of "Doom 4: The Rejected Sequel" Avoid playing it at all costs.

Have a nice day.
