Ben Dream

I know what you're thinking, this is just a dream and has absolutely nothing to do with real life. I understand that, but this is just one of those dreams that's so unnerving and so real that you don't know what to make of it. What's so frustrating about a scary dream is that there's absolutely no way to capture the feeling of it when describing it to others. I'm sure most people have experienced that at some point, so hopefully you'll relate.

In fact, you probably might not even find it all that scary yourself, but I can assure you that it is absolutely terrifying when your "living" it. Even thinking back on it myself, it's really not too scary, but it's a commonly known fact that your sense of logic is turned off while dreaming. And sometimes you just know stuff in dreams and you can't explain the reasoning behind it, so naturally it will be more scary while dreaming it than thinking or hearing about it in real life. I just hope you'll understand what I'm trying to say.

One could argue that I had this dream because I read the Ben Creepypasta, but that's not true. I never even heard the story of Ben until a few weeks or so after I had the dream, that's why it seems more scary than it would've been for me. I never even knew about the Elegy of Emptiness statue before that. I did play Majora's Mask as a child, but I never made it to Ikana Canyon until my teenage years. Majora's Mask scared the crap out of me as a kid, as it did to most people. There are a lot of creepy moments, it has some disturbing themes, and it has an overall uncomfortable atmosphere to it, especially as a kid.

That's the thing I always found interesting about Majora's Mask, it's very similar to Ocarina of Time, which is considered to be one of the best games ever made, and most people look upon it with fond memories. Majora's Mask is the polar opposite, not in the sense of it being a good game, but in the sense that people look at it as being creepy and disturbing. I was five years old when it first came out, so I was so afraid of it that I never finished it as a kid. About a week before I had the dream, I discovered my old Nintendo 64 and all my games in my basement, so I decided to hook it up and revisit my childhood. I also decided to try and beat Majora's Mask, being that I was now older. I started from the beginning rather than picking up where I left off, I felt that I needed get a feel for it again before I dove into the middle of the game.

Now that I got all that out of the way, time for the dream itself. The first thing I remember is walking down what seemed to be a hotel hallway at nighttime. I know this seems like it's setting up the Shining, but it's not. I wasn't sure how I got there, but you never remember how dreams start, you always seem to end up right in the middle of them, so this is normal. It was pitch black, but somehow I was still able to see a little bit, as if I had night vision. As far as I knew was the only one there, but I felt a presence with me. I continued to walk down the hall aimlessly for what felt like about fifteen minutes. I never came to a bend or intersection in the hallway, it just seemed to go on forever. Eventually I walked into one of the hotel rooms, which happened to be open.

It looked exactly like my parent's bedroom. I could see that the light in my parent's bathroom was on, but somehow it still seemed dark in there, it's really hard to explain what it looked like. Imagine as if somebody took a picture of a room with a light on in it, and then photoshopped it to make it look dim, but you could still tell that the light was on when the picture was taken. I glanced around the room and into the hallway and saw that the door directly across the hallway was open, but I didn't take any notice of it. I also noticed a small end table in the middle of the room that didn't belong there. There was a notepad sitting on it, with writing on it that read "Look in the room". Somehow that reminded me of a videogame, when you have to look at something in first person perspective in order to activate it. Like in some Zelda games for example, you'll be in a boss room and the boss is nowhere to be found, then you'll go into first person perspective and look at the boss on the ceiling, and then the boss battle will start.

I looked into the room across the hall, which would've been my room if I was actually in my parent's bedroom, and I noticed a severed head sitting on the bed, but for some reason it didn't scare me. Then I noticed toward the back of the room there was a figure standing there, staring straight at me, and my heart froze. Once again, I didn't know about the Elegy of Emptiness statue when I had this dream, and it was dark so I didn't actually see it very clearly other than the shape, but from what I did see it looked pretty damn close. I couldn't see the color or the image itself, but it was exactly the same shape and it stood in exactly the same position, not moving an inch, perfectly motionless like a statue. Somehow I knew within a split second that the notepad was placed there as a trick, so that I would look in the room and the following will happen.

The thin image of a knife jutted out from the area where the "statue's" hand would've been, and it suddenly broke from its motionless state and sprinted towards me faster than I could comprehend. I didn't even have any time to defend myself before he pummelled into me and wresteled me to the ground. I began screaming so loud and shrill that it hurt my ears and I was barely able to comprehend what was going on. I kicked and screamed and fought with all my strength to get him away, but nothing caused him to relent. He began stabbing me with his knife, and I could feel it going in and out of me, but for some reason it didn't hurt, however I was still in a state of utter panic. Even when he was up close to me, all I remember seeing was the shape of his head, I still couldn't see his face or what he looked like, and if I did I don't remember, being that I was in such a state of panic and fear. The stabbing went one for about ten seconds, and then he suddenly got back up and ran back to his previous position in the other room. I didn't see him there, I was afraid to look at him, but somehow I knew he was there. I felt like he was waiting for me to look at him, so he could be "activated" again, but at that point I intentionally woke up out of fear.

Sometimes I can do that, I'm not sure why I can so it sometimes and not others, or if anyone else can do that too, but sometimes if I'm having a particularly bad dream, I will become aware that I'm dreaming and wake myself up. I was trembling and sweating beyond control, I had the feeling that I was about to cry, and I was breathing abnormally fast. I was literally so sweaty that I could've urinated myself for all I knew and I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. It was about 4:00 am when I woke up, and I was too scared to go back to sleep. Obviously I was tired, but every time my eyes shut I just immediately forced them back open out of instinct. I stayed awake the rest of the night, in fact I got out of bed a half hour earlier than I usually wake up, just to make sure that I didn't fall back asleep.

A few days later, my friend told me about the Ben Creepypasta, then I got home from school that day and decided to go and read it. I didn't believe it at first, I thought it was a well-written story, but it didn't seem very plausible to me. I didn't watch the videos yet, so I still didn't know exactly what the Elegy of Emptiness statue looked like. Then I went to go continue Majora's Mask, and I happened to be at the start of the Ikana Canyon portion of the game. Eventually when I learned the Elegy of Emptiness and the cutscene where you see the statue for the first time, I immediately thought of the figure from the dream.

I just felt so unnerved from the idea that I decided to play the Song of Time and quit the game. This actually happened a few months before I'm writing this, and I'm still not entirely sure what to make of it all. I don't know if it has some connection to Ben himself, or what the deal could be. Nothing paranormal or Ben related has ever happened to me since, so I would like to think that it was just a dream, but somehow I just know that it was that statue in the dream. Sometimes you can't really explain things like that in dreams, sometimes dreams are mostly composed of plain thoughts and ideas, and little actual experiences. I just thought I'd share the dream and let you determind how you feel about it.
