A Normal Workday

Joseph Clifford Bryant was a normal, working-class citizen.

He lived in Newbery, California, with his wife, Heather, and children, David and Emily. Though his job didn't give him much time to spend with them, he enjoyed being with them whenever he could. A lot of the time, because his job was a very well-paying one, he'd take them somewhere to have fun. An arcade, the circus, the movies, a restaurant, and everywhere else, as well.

And during the summer, when his kids were off from school, he'd take them and his wife to the island where he worked. Yup, you heard me right, the island. His job was at an island hundreds of miles away from his home in California. Of course, for many years, no human had ever tampered with the island's natural splendor and beauty. This, combined with its climate, made the island an ideal vacation spot.

Not long ago, Joseph's boss had bought the rights to the entire island. It had been expensive, but his boss had plenty of money to buy it with. Yet even so, his boss was constantly cutting corners. "Replace this with that, put it here instead of there," and so on. It went on and on every day.

Joseph knew that at some point, someone might try to take their revenge on his cheapskate boss. He always wondered about what the results would be like when that happened. He knew it wouldn't be pretty when it did. And he didn't want to be around as it occurred, either.

What he didn't yet know was that he would soon get what he wanted.

It was a normal spring night. Joseph was driving from his personal island bunker to his job site. The reason he and the other workers and scientists slept in bunkers, unlike their boss who slept in his own private cabin, was because he, along with all the other employees, were smart enough to be prepared in case of the island's creatures escaping from their pens and attacking them.

Yes, for you see, the animals that lived there were quite vicious. Should any person dare to enter the spots of the island assigned to them, there was a good chance that that person would not return.

But even if they were vicious, dangerous beasts, they were still beautiful, majestic creatures, with some of the most interesting lifestyles, and that many people would give everything away to get the chance to observe them. The only problem was that they didn't exist anywhere else on Earth besides the island.

Of course, Joseph's boss knew this, and this, as Joseph figured, was why he bought the island. Of course, what didn't make sense to Joseph was that he though these animals didn't even exist anymore. He'd heard stories of people gone 'round the world looking for them, but not finding a single remaining live specimen.

As he passed the sign saying "Welcome to Isla Nublar!"...

As he passed the gates, which slowly opened underneath the big, glowing words, "Jurassic Park"...

As he approached the Velociraptor's cage...

If only he'd known what would happen next.

For you see, his job was as the gate opener...

It was a risky job, considering that one tiny slip-up could lead to the loss of a life. Or a few...

But it was all right.

Nobody with this job had ever made a mistake before...

Surely, it wouldn't just happen to happen tonight, of all nights...

Surely, he'd be all right...
