A Drive
I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my eyes set on the road and nothing but the road. Behind me, Lucas and Dylan had just woke up, and were groggily searching the trunk for food.
"Food's in the cooler" I told Lucas, my eyes still fixed on the road. Lucas opened the cooler, and took out a some chips, loudly crunching on them
Crunch. Crunch
"How long till we get there?" Dylan asked me. I looked at the clock on the car's dashboard.
"It's 1 right now," I told Dylan, "So about 5"
Dylan groaned and leaned back on her chair. I continued to maintain eye to eye contact with the road, as if there was a staring contest. The trees danced with the wind, the grass flowing as the wind blew all around the car. The afternoon sun was shining brightly, making a large shadow in the form of a car. It felt no time had passed since the trip started. All around us, the landscape was the same. Tall trees, the occasional clearing or house, but nothing more. No cities, no skyscrapers, nothing like the urban environment I was used to. I sighed and continued to drive, thinking about my old neighborhood. It was indeed a nice one. Houses stuck together as if glue was holding it together. Trees growing on the pavement. Hell, you could even see a large skyscraper or two over the houses given the right...
"WATCH OUT!"
I snapped out of my trance and saw a young girl on the road. Immediately, I swerved to avoid the girl, causing the car to fly off the road. Everything went in slow motion for a minute. Lucas was holding onto the handles, Dylan gripped her seat belt tightly. The car flipped over, causing all our things to flip alongside the car. Soon, I found myself upside down, groaning as pain struck me on every part of my body. I took off my seat belt, causing me to fall onto what was supposed to be the sunroof. I crawled out of the car, and ran to the backseats.
"Take off your seat belt" I told Dylan. Dylan nodded and took off her seat belt, followed by Lucas. The three of us stood up, groaning in pain. Dylan had a large gash on his arm, the blood seeping out of a large tear in her white shirt. I took off my sweatshirt and wrapped it around Dylan's wound, carefully applying pressure to the wound. Dylan grunted in pain. I bent down, and grabbed a large hunting rifle out of the remnants of our items, and a large case of bullets. I tossed the rifle to Lucas, and he put in a bullet. The three of us walked back up to the road. The girl was still there, looking as though the car crash hadn't happened earlier. Lucas slowly aimed the rifle at the girl. Dylan ran over to stop Lucas.
"Are you crazy!?" Dylan yelled. Lucas didn't falter, and continued to aimed the rifle at the girl.
"Stay right where you are!" Lucas yelled at the girl. The girl turned slowly towards us. Lucas continued to aim the rifle.
"For gosh sake's she's just a kid!" Dylan yelled at Lucas.
"We have to take precautions" I yelled at Dylan. The girl continued to look at us, almost making a sad dog face at us. Lucas slowly walked forward, continuing to aim the gun. With his left hand, he slowly lifted up the young girl's shirt. There was nothing, just pale white skin. Lucas did the same thing with her pants, rolling up each pants leg. Soon, he stood up and turned to us. He looked distraught. I looked at Lucas.
"What's wrong?" I asked. Lucas slowly bent down and rolled up the girl's pants leg, and revealed a large bite wound on her leg. Dylan's eyes were welling up with tears.
"No...we're not gonna kill her!" Dylan yelled. I pulled Dylan back, but she broke free of my grasp and ran towards the young girl.
"Dylan don't make this hard on me! Move!" Lucas yelled, aiming the gun at the girl. "You know how hard it is for me to do this?!"
"Then don't!" Dylan yelled. The girl was crying, tears hitting the dry pavement. Lucas pulled back the bolt of the gun.
"NO!" Dylan yelled rushing towards Lucas. The gun clattered to the ground and a large thud echoed throughout the road. Lucas laid on the floor, blood seeping out of a large crack in his head. Dylan grabbed the gun and aimed it right at me.
"Don't kill her" Dylan was yelling at me. "For gosh sake's she's just a kid"
I slowly grabbed a pistol tucked beneath my shirt and aimed it at Dylan.
"Move" I instructed Dylan. "Unless you want to die"
The young girl shrunk back in fear. Dylan continued to aim the rifle at me. I sighed and looked at the girl. She was crying softly, grabbing onto Dylan's shirt. Dylan was still aiming the gun at me,
"Don't move!" Dylan said. I slowly cocked the lever of my pistol back. Dylan flinched as I slowly rested my finger on the trigger.
"You pull that I shoot you!" Dylan yelled. "You're not gonna harm her"
"Dylan snap out of your bloody delusions!" I yelled at her. "You met her not even half an hour ago!"
"But we can't just kill kids! I mean, you saw. She's scared!" Dylan yelled back at me. My finger flinched.
"But that doesn't excuse the fact that she has a bite wound on her leg!" I yelled at Dylan. Dylan yelled and I saw that the girl's face was turning pale white.
"This is your last chance! Move or I shoot the both of you!" I yelled at Dylan. Behind Dylan, pus seeped out of the girl's leg, and she began breathing heavily.
"I'm not moving. You're not killing her!" Dylan yelled at me, beginning to pull the trigger. I sighed and pulled the trigger. Dylan yelled and also pulled the trigger of his gun.
Two deafening gunshots echoed in the distance
