A Darkedge Tale
The following story is taken from true events. Names may have been changed to protect the identies of the deceased and/or living.
My name is Bradley, I am 37 years old and I have a story to tell.
I grew up on Staten Island almost all of my life. Born in 1975, I remember the days with my mother down in the city, I remember my dad coming home from his job all ready to rest up for a while. My brother Josh picking on me because he was my brother and that's what brother's did. Growing up around the area my dad always used a name to get me and Josh to go to bed. That name was Cropsey.
Now if you have ever lived in the Staten Island area, you have heard of Cropsey. What, or Who, was Crospey? He was the escaped mental patient from the old Willowbrook Building who would kidnap kiddies in the night and make them vanish like a magician's assisstant. Josh at the time of my birth was 3 years old, and the day I was born, as I was told, was a long day, they said I was stubborn to get out of my mother, but I came nonetheless. Now there were children vanishing about but we thought nothing of it. That was until the Cropsey legend came full circle in the summer of 1987, the day poor little Jennifer Scweiger vanished.
Now I remember Schweiger, she used to go to the same school as I did. I would see her in the halls. I was always afraid of going near her because I didn't know what was wrong with her. But I will never forget that day she just disappeared. If you were a kid in Staten Island at that time you went everywhere with your parents and if you weren't with them, you stayed where you were at until they came and got you. That poor girl just walked off with some guy into the woods near Willowbrook and was never seen again.....that is until that very August.
After that happened I was weary of walking home because I was freaked out but after what happened, I wasn't the same way again.
I remember a creepy feeling that something was near me as I walked home from the stop. It was a feeling of being watched. A feeling that maybe the killer was still at large. I ran the rest of the way home, my heart pounding in my chest. That was the day I decided that I didn't want to live in Staten Island. Me and my folks packed up and left for good. I said goodbye to my friends and I didn't look back...
It is now 15 years later and I have decided to come back to Staten Island.
